I (and many frustrated WGers out there) have had issues with the client receiving a critical error for either on install or update. I have tried both the following and had success at different times.

Method 1: Corrupt download fix

This method is taken from this post. Note the first post has the relevant error log message.

Solution (by SyberSmoke):

1. Go to your World of Tanks/Updates directory, inside you should see the patch file and a torrent file.
2. If you have a torrent application installed, use the torrent file and start a download of the patch.  If you do not have a torrent application, you can get uTorrent Here.
3. Once the torrent has been accepted, stop the download and go to your download directory for the torrent application.
4. Copy the patch file from your WoT/Updates into the download directory for the torrent application.  Replace the place holder file that is there.
5. Go to the torrent application and do a "Force Re-Check" on the patch file, this will make sure all the pieces are present.  If your missing a piece, start the download to get the missing pieces.
6. When all missing parts are finished, do a recheck to make sure.  If it is good, copy the file back to the updates folder replacing the old damaged file.

Method 2: Installing to a drive other than C:.

This issue completely baffled me and I ended up submitting a support ticket. The WOTLauncher.log file described the error as such:

08/03/2013 00:19:06    Patch installation...
08/03/2013 00:19:06    pkg file(id = 1): name="wot_84.2267_83.2114_client.patch", size=869094320, uncompressed_size=1354435223

system error: (0x4C8)"The requested operation cannot be performed on a file with a user-mapped section open."
08/03/2013 00:19:07  ERROR: pkg file(id = 1): what="move file error", msg="name="C:\Users\MUGWAH~1\AppData\Local\Temp\wargaming.net\wot\temp\wot_84.2267_83.2114_client.patch\res\scripts\item_defs\vehicles\germany\b-1bis_captured.xml" name_to="G:\Games\World_of_Tanks\SEA\res\scripts\item_defs\vehicles\germany\b-1bis_captured.xml""
08/03/2013 00:19:07  ERROR: pkg file(id = 1): FAIL
08/03/2013 00:19:07  ERROR: Patch installation: FAIL
08/03/2013 00:19:13    Stop update process
08/03/2013 00:19:13    User close the application
08/03/2013 00:19:13    Stop

Apparently, the client does not like you installing to a drive other than C. If you are like me, I have a small size boot drive and a large secondary drive. I keep everything on the secondary drive. Support recommended uninstalling from G and re-installing on C. Of course, this requires downloading the entire client again. The easier option is to simply

1. Copy your entire game folder to C.
2. Perform the update there by running the WOTLauncher file.
3.Copy back the entire folder back to your desired drive.

If you want to be extra safe, do this after performing Method 1 above.

Hope these two solutions help others get around these incredibly annoying and, frankly, absurd, bugs.

Suggestion to WG: Fix the client - these issues have been plaguing people for over a year now.... :Smile_amazed:
