As we are obviously both people of great taste,

When can we expect to actually drive the Chieftain in-game?

Well its in the game files, and it has been for a year+ now, so it obviously hasn't been scrapped. My bet is that WG are currently working on a Mini branch for the Chieftain.

It is highly unlikely that I'll end up doing a Thunderbolt video. Not least, I believe the survivor is in Canberra, and after my trip there, I have found little reason to go back. (It's not a -bad- place, I just didn't find anything interesting).

#2. the anime premium tanks currently in supertest.

I feel for you on the anime tanks. Fortunately for us on this side of the water, only the APAC server is getting them. (Hey, it seems to be a popular thing in most of APAC). I hear rumours of a solution for those of you not interested in it, but it may take a few months to implement, assuming it still goes ahead.

I have nothing to say on Chieftain. Honestly, it's been sitting in limbo for so long, I've filed it away in the same file as T-92 Light, T-88 Howitzer or T-24 Tank Destroyer, or half the French Heavies: Made the model in the game, but not likely to be implemented.

Maybe a PREMIUM "Chieftains" Chieftain Tank with Custom "Chieftains" designed WOT Camo.  Maybe a Special WG crew with Col Nick Moran in the commanders seat, with maybe a Zero Skill "Sixth Sense" perk.

Vote NOW, to Wall up the Lakeville Valley Pass.

So Many Idiots.

So little Shells.

I have to say, Cairns was much nicer this time of year. Wife has had a bucket list item of the Barrier Reef. Seemed a little disappointing, actually. I guess the light doesn't go down 10 meters all that well.

Giving some consideration to showing up at AusArmorFest... Anyone else thinking about it?

Could you give your opinions on the med armor buffs in supertest? Was there any thought of historicity going into it or was it a case of gameplay balance?

@nicholasmoran/chieftain if that's who you really are. What is the most feasible non-production tank design wg has put into the game that you think would have been practical for that respective nation to use

Interesting question, if perhaps a little self-defeating. After all, if they had no issues, they probably would have been built! Most of the German Waffentraeger line seems doable, maybe E75/E50. T67 was a good idea, but it morphed into T70/M18 anyway. The little universal carrier with the 2pr may have had some merit as an SP AT gun. I know the Aussies built a couple hundred of their 2pr carriers, so why the British didn't go with their version, I'm not sure except, maybe for monetary reasons. That said, I think the Aussie carrier was a better overall design, they put a fair bit of thought into it. As they should have, since they put it into production.

Chief, did you ever get around to writing an article about the 17-pdr and why they didn't fit it into the T23 turret?

Quote

The answer is 'no', and it's part of the reason the 75mm tank remained in production. The British could not easily convert the improved turret to mount the 17pr and specifically requested 75mm tanks. Interestingly, the American came to a similar conclusion, deciding that the 75mm could not be easily installed into the T23 turret either. The problem is that the trunnion on the larger turret is too far forward for the gun to mount correctly. I have the test report around somewhere, I was planning on writing a brief article about it some time ago.

Following on from this, do you think they may have been able to fit the 17-pdr into a Jumbo turret? Itself being based on a modified T23 turret, where they did manage to at least house the M3 75mm by modifying the mount.

Yes, https://worldoftanks...ain-turretsize/

I did a chat on US tank design philosophy in NYC a few years ago. Here's about 100 minutes' worth

You mean the one you did a few months ago? Back in September (that's the one that pops up through the link)? I was planning to go to that actually, but the partner came first. Did romance-y things instead. Lol.

Well neither of us will ever be able to make peace with that. its a damn gold-pile they're sitting on with that tank knowing how many people want it. Even the Chinese server started selling it because of its appeal!
