I have some information that might help Wargaming and people that ( like my self ) have been experiencing increased latency ( 100ms + over what is normal ) . I've been in contact with a few people from Telstra who have ties in Telstra Global who have found out that anyone from Australia that uses this router ( xe-1-1-1.gw401.sg2.ap.equinix.com []  ) to play WOT will be having increased latency issue.


The point of this post is to get someone from Wargaming to have a look at this and get on the back of Equinix since it's there router after all. Also i will post the email i got from the Telstra person but I'm not going to give a name.


(TG = Telstra Global )

TG have actually forwarded this issue to equinix. They believe the issue is sitting with them.

Unfortunately I don't think there's going to be any quick fix for this but at least we've highlighted the fact that a lot of Telstra wholesale ISPs are experiencing higher latency than Bigpond/TID retail customers.

I hope we get some traction on this as I can definitely understand how annoying this would be as a gamer myself. I'm hoping this isn't by design as the same issue has been raised a number of times over the last few years. Unfortunately I don't have much visibility in the TG network (used to be REACH). Even though both are owned by Telstra now they are still seperate entities and it makes it harder now that the fault has gone through to equinix - apparently the latency spikes start at their WAN IP. I will ask for an update soon and let you know.


I've only got the first address in your trace and not the source so they may not be able to see the latency towards that IP. I might ask you for your IP address if they need it. I'll understand if it's not something you would like to provide but I can give you my official Telstra mail if it would help.

I've given this issue to our L3 TID Customer assurance team who deal with these things more so than I. They can chase this up with other ISPs affected. I'm in L3 TID Operations so I'm more focused on the infrastructure.

Well my testing tonight, during a completely 999 game, showed that between Quinix and Wg-Slave, they set a Ttl (time to live)of only 1.

Now yes, that may be only one hop, however, when the server gets busy, this value can easily time out, your packet be lost and lagg is our result.

Tends to explain why servers are almost un-playable, whenever a new update, big event weekend or like is running, with so many low ping clients pushing the Quinix hardware, and WG servers much harder!

Please investigate this further!

My entire game was spent with 999 ping, whilst also looking at a steady stream of "Time to Live Exceeded" errors, you guessed it, between Quinix hop (xe-1-1-1.gw401.sg2.ap.equinix.com included) and WG servers!

All the while i had a reported ping, of between 112 to 120ms, to the WG servers, as shown by tracert.

Also of interest is that they set a Ttl value of only 128 from WG servers to Australia, where telstra sets the return packets to 243, giving it far more time before a Ttl timeout.

Big problem with this Wargaming, is that the value 128 is used for "restricted to the same continent."

Guess what, WE ARE IN  Australia, and require the use of 255, which is for unrestricted, cross continent packet transmissions!

No wonder i dont get outlines, or tanks spotted when i should, the packets time out and never end up arriving.

From the last couple of posts it appears as though xe-1-1-1.gw401.sg2.ap.equinix.com has been set up for domestic Singapore use.  Why are we (Australia+) being routed through this server?  

I have been experiencing the same lag issues; as reported by ping-plotter - 140ms to xe-1-1-1.gw401.sg2.ap.equinix.com, another 140ms to WOT, for a total of 280+.  

As a temporary solution I decided to trial WTFast.  Bingo, back to 140ms ping.  Strangely enough this program does not give you the option of routing through SG2.  From this, I am assuming that the fact that SG2 is set up for domestic Singapore use, is not a secret.

Can anybody offer any guidance on how to change the route for WOT?

Alternatively, fix xe-1-1-1.gw401.sg2.ap.equinix.com?

I can confirm that xe-1-1-1.gw401.sg2.ap.equinix.com is causeing the packet loss.

No, ping is measures in milliseconds,

So 300 ping is high, and that's 1/3rd of a second. Our servers dont allow players to login if their pings are over about 800,  8/10th of a second.


Since pings are so low in real time.. increased ping by routing through USA, means little compared to getting lag from a traffic jam between AUS and Singapore.

If there is big traffic jams on a cable, your isp may route you through usa to avoid that.. higher pings, less lag/packet loss = a better alternative during that time..

I have been having problems that started last night.  I cannot control the tanks so I drovwe over cliffs etc because it won't stop and then takes seconds to respond then over compensates.  Very frustrating.  Like you Tanitha I live in Perth but no idea where my internet goes.  My isp details are:

Not a good idea to give your IP address and trace route in public, use support tickets.  But they won't do anything about it anyway, this thread is just a smoke screen to get you to wait a couple weeks before complaining again.

Just back from holidays and dont know exactly what you changed, but its pretty unplayable for me now.


Going from 120-140 ping max to 250-300 ping all the time I can just about live with as I played 10,000 games on the US server with 330 ping.


Its the constant spikes up to 1000+ I am getting however make for difficulty driving, aiming and even seeing tanks.


Showing the same big spike at xe-1-1-1.gw401.sg2.ap.equinix.com as mentioned above.


Why did we change WG?

Just want to let you know according to this report among the problematic routers that is giving our player base issues can be found at http://www.dslreports.com/routerwatch


Among those ntt.net has always been giving us problems and specifically as-2.r21.newthk02.hk.bb.gin.ntt.net but I'm not sure how WG can help fix this issue or us for that.

What did they do ?

Many of my friends including me got this increase in ping to 300 +

Funny thing is that even in NA, we had lesser ping i.e only 250 ms with no lag..

My ISP may have issue at someone point of day but not 24 x 7..It is now always 300 ms + lag or WITHOUT lag but still 300 ms sux..When you are used to smooth 90 ms

Lag is not issue for me but high ping is ! WTFast expired *Sigh*

Does anyone know any other software to reduce the MS ?

I just used the world of tanks uninstall software no ping issues anymore.

i wish you all the best of luck getting your games running well because it seems that this issue will never be fixed ever.

i been getting horrible packet losses when in game.

funny thing, they don't happen when i am in garage.

The amount of lag in the last 3 days is BS. It isn't my ISP it is WG.

So my ticket got closed with nothing

As a game company, the only thing we could do is try to optimize your return path from our server to your location, we can't optimize the path from your location to our server which is set by your local ISP. This is the reason why our help sometimes is limited. 

In this moment, we could only suggest you to contact your local ISP for further assistance."



My ISP has said its WG after getting my tracert and looking at others going the same routing....that dont seem to hang up at xe-1-1-1.gw401.sg2.ap.equinix.com [



Really need some help from someone to at least tell me where I need to point the finger at!!


Game is pretty unplayable and relying entirely on LUCK at the moment to win.

How many days does my ticket need to be replied to? -.- Been 4 now still no reply. Past 3 days I got 250ping now it's 300.

My average ping before was 90-100.
