Hi everyone, encouraged by Fruity's guide (whom I borrowed the template from) I though I'd write a guide on what is one of the most under-appreciated tier 8 premium tonks, the T-34-3.

Crew skills/perks

Sixth sense and camo are mandatory for Communist medium tanks, BiA doesn't have a huge effect but any boost to the reload and accuracy and soft stats is good in my opinion but it can be easily traded for repairs if that's what you prefer. The gunnery skills help with the awful bloom and make it just that bit more bearable. Safe stowage is something I highly recommend on EVERY tank because getting ammo racked (yellow or boom) sucks, moreso on the T-34-3 as the sides are pretty much made out of ammunition.

lLjTUIc.jpg

Loadout

The rammer and vertical stabiliser are self explanatory, no high tier medium should go without them. what separates this from a more traditional medium equipment setup is the use of a GLD instead of optics, this is because of the extraordinarily long aim time. For my playstyle I feel that I do more work for tem by limiting the time I spend aiming than I do by getting the mad assisted damagez. If you are more of an enabler then optics are a perfectly valid choice. Vents, unlike BiA are a waste of a valuable slot, the 2% boost is far less useful than the 10% optics or a GLD provides.

The AFE is vital because the driver is actually a robotic fuel tank capable of driving cold war era tanks, the sides are also made out of fuel tanks so expect to burn quite often if you get shot a lot in the hull. The other consumables are fairly standard, I would use a premium med kit but I don't want to eat into my profits that much.

I almost never shoot HEAT because it is super derpy: huge reticle + HEAT shenanigans + long reload = QQ I tracked them. Learning to get the most out of the 175mm of pen is essential and something which I will expand upon a little bit later. HE is gud fun against Borsigs.

With my setup, those are the camo values the T-34-3 gets which are obviously very good, this gives the T-34-3 a lot of flexibility on certain maps to scout and re-position without being detected.

Gun Depression

Or more accurately, a lack of it, getting past the awful gun depression is one of the most important skills this tank requires, learning it myself took 100+ games. there are several tricks to it:

  • Memorise areas you can't effectively fight without trading really badly and avoid them
  • Be mindful of the terrain, look for bumps and dips which you should avoid to avoid wiping out any endangered species of birds
  • Use terrain to get fake gun depression by reversing onto bumps or driving onto hills on an angle. In the screenshot below I have driven onto a hill so that I can shoot at the Tiger II from a position I would have been otherwise unable to

sy68cZr.jpg

The better you get at using the terrain to maximise your gun depression the better you will do in the T-34-3.

Using the AP round

To maximise your profits you have to learn where you can pen the tanks you will commonly encounter, do your best to memorise weakspots such as the lower half of the IS-3's UFP which is genuinely bad, LFP's and so on. Ont of the most powerful tools the       T-34-3 has is overmatch, where the caliber is three times* as thick as the armour, memorising areas you can overmatch is crucial to not relying on HEAT. Examples include the roofs of the IS-3/6, Tiger II and Tortoise.

*Three times + a minimum of 1mm: 120mm will not overmatch 40mm whereas 122 will.

Advice from other good players

Spoiler

The thread can be found here, which I started when I was a baddie at this tank: http://forum.worldoftanks.asia/index.php?/topic/34801-t-34-3-how-to-not-fail/

Overall pros and cons

pros

  • High alpha (limits exposure and makes late-game trading acceptable)
  • Good mobility (a tad sluggish, but easily good enough to do be good)
  • Turret armour
  • HEAT pen (for tier 9 targets if you <3 gold ammo)
  • Camo (Soviet cloaking devices work in China too!)
  • 122mm (Overmatch and HE damage, because HE always does damage)
  • Teaches many useful skills, especially managing gun depression

Cons

  • DPM
  • Gun handling
  • accuracy
  • Gun depression
  • HEAT (because HEAT)
  • Hull armour
  • Module damage
  • Acceleration (compared to other Communist tonks)
  • Arty loves you

Summary

This is one of the most fun tanks I've played, after 500 battles I still enjoy it a lot, I think this is partly due to the difficulty of the tank, it's very rewarding when it goes well although it can be frustrating when RNG disagrees. While it may not be a Type 59 it is very capable and fun when driven by someone who knows how to. it has many downsides but is many usable strengths as well, it's definitely not something I would recommend to anyone who is not experienced with Communist mediums and especially those without good gun depression.

But to those who are familiar with medium gameplay and bad gun depression it's a very rewarding tonk that is challenging but fun and pulls in a healthy profit (unless you are addicted to the sizzling sound HEAT makes). Lastly, it's always hilarious when a tier 8 medium slams another tonk for ~390 damage.

Replays

These replays are from 9.2, so I don't know if they still work.

Edit: Added a new replay for 9.4, old replays can still be found below.

9.4 -

Special mention to the Kharkov replay which is currently the highest base exp.game uploaded to wotreplays.org, although that game was extremely luckytm.

Old -

Stats

The stats aren't great because I spent the first 200 games sucking in the T-34-3. The last 300 games are the only ones where I have felt that I have been playing the T-34-3 well, unless you are experienced with Chinese mediums or OP like Laserbeam don't expect to get amazing stats at first.

Spoiler

The average exp is a bit low because it includes a lot of games without a premium account.

Spoilers don't work, BBCode, I curse thee!!!

That Tiger II using stock turret, just shoot the turret front.

Noobs don't snipe because they are good at snipe; noobs snipe because they can't do anything else / People don't lose because they lemming; people lemming because they are losers

Do not confuse team strength with individual strength; a single enemy killed in a 1v3 is worth more than two enemies killed in a 4v2 / Lanchester's Square Law predicts in a 2v1, the side with 2 will end with 1.5 tanks remaining, so if you won with less than that remaining, you're actually noob, not pro

When you are not losing because you outnumber the enemy, your other flank is losing because they are outnumbered; it's just math

Law of mirror: When you are holding a 1v6 against the enemy, you own team is also getting 6v1 held by the enemy

Noob self-balancing theory: When you release a good tank, enough noobs will flood to play it, until the server stats become average again

Yes, it is, but the principle remains, the roof on the top turret is just as prone to overmatch.

Haven't played my t-34-3 in ages, even before I went inactive I moved the equipment on it to the t-34-1 because I was poor. I think HEAT can be decently worthwhile and works fine.

If you're interested for comparison of my stats I'm at 2018 dpg/1.7kpg, 69% solopub

Bye tanks!

Hax.

The HEAT round is admittedly good because a lot of tanks like the T-54, Type 59, IS-6 etc become a lot easier to deal with but it's not something I use very often, mainly because I don't want to lose money.

Nice guide Storm, although I was wondering, what's it like gaining credits compared to other tier 8 premiums? And is it a good crew trainer? Thanks in advance.

Credits are good unless you shoot HEAT (which is expensive) although it's not on the same level as the JT88 in that regard. The credits would be better than an IS-6 because it doesn't need to shoot gold (thanks to the mobility and I feel that it makes more than the FCM 50t although that's just anecdotal evidence. It is a lot of fun if you know how to play it so credit grinds aren't painful (unlike the JT88 or Lowe).

Regarding training, as with most premiums it's a solid crew trainer and is also helped by the small (4 members) crew but it's Chinese so its use may be limited if you aren't a fan of Chinese tonks.

Do you have WoT installed on multiple computers and haven't updated them all yet? I have a computer which is still on 9.1 which I use to watch older replays.

yer.  numpties.

it's a good guide but i want to watch replays and make some proper comments with queries.

but that's ok, i'm kinda tired anyways and wanna have a lie down.  i'll just keep an eye out on your wotreplays.org page for any potential new replays.  underwater rams are a bonus.
