Hey guys, Just came back from a 7 week holiday around Australia, (driving the entire way), It took us 11,000kms but it was a trip of a lifetime and I can not wait to get back to some of the many fantastic places I got to see.

One of them being the brand new Cairns Tank Museum, Which now houses some very recognisable tanks we all know and love

Full 40+ Photos are here: Cairns Tank Museum

Here are just some highlights:

1st shot on this page is of a M47 Patton, With a training gun fitted to the real thing. If you view the full 40 photo's you can read about it (I took photos of the signs for the tanks as-well)

The Museum's list of coming attractions looks fantastic. Have to get over to Brisbane to visit the family in the next year or so, I wonder if I can manage a flight to Cairns with the older boys.

McMole, is the tank museum up at Atherton tablelands still there, or did that new museum absorb some of his collection?

He had so much stuff..

The Mareeba museum is known as The Beck Museum. Some google searches will yield address and opening times, but sadly no website. Not to worry - at least it's out there.

Maybe we should compile a thread with known good tank/military museums?

A pinned museum thread would be a great idea , adresses a bit of info, links etc, and pics/ review by peeps who have been there, I posted some pics of my family's visit to the Vietnam Vets Museum on Phillip Island 6 months ago, good luck finding it, the same will happen to this thread and the other one from the UK tank place, just get pushed down the page and vanish, A one stop museum post shop is what we need, I also have a heap of pics from the PT Cook RAAF museum i could put up,

The Atherton tank museum was still there at Easter this year when I went past, and if you are visiting Brisbane, don't forget to pop up to the Rail Workshop Museum at Ipswich and see the WW1 A7V Sturmpanzerwagen ( Mephisto)- they finished a two year restoration last year.

But I have to wait for an answer first:blinky:
