As a Malaysian, even if am saddened by his passing. Strong leaders who have the strength of character to back it up are sorely missed in today's world of compromises.

I am living in Singapore. I am not born as Singaporean, but that doesn't matter.

I have a huge respect for this man. He will surely be missed.

He was able to make Singapore from 1965-2015, from a small fisherman's village to 1 of the leading metropolis cities (country).

Rest In Peace, and my condolences to his family and my fellow Singaporeans.

Why a new thread, when there is already one open on this subject?

Edit: Now that the threads are merged; i would like to offer my condolences to the many followers who supported this leader.

An icon of the very turbulent 20th century.

He is one of the few great leaders in this world whom I respect and remember for the rest of my life.

I write because I have something to say not because I want to say something.

I think it says a lot if even Malaysian radio stations were accepting tributes to a 'foreign' leader to be broadcast over the airwaves.

Couple of articles from mothership.sg - surprisingly mild given how much it likes to rib the govt.

When Singapore was thorn from the Malaysian federation like an aborted baby, LKY became the reluctant midwife, who took Singapore into his arms and nurtured it back to health. His dedication and commitment now lives on in the very legacy he left behind... Singapore.

My sincerest condolence.

There was an article in The Star Malaysia written by Lee Kuan Yew's daughter, where she talked about how Singaporeans as a whole were doing in the during and after his funeral. It just...it brought out feelings in me again.

I will admit, when I first heard of his death, I went in a corner of my apartment and cried my eyes out. And I say this as a Malaysian (as in, a foreigner, for anyone outside Malaysia and Singapore who is reading this). He was a great statesman who had the intelligence to know what was best for his country, and who had the courage to do what needed to be done, and had the ruthlessness to make sure that no one got in the way of that. He made Singapore what it is today, and had things gone a differently, had Singapore stayed in the union with Malaysia with a few compromises with the Malaysian government...it's one of the great what-ifs of the century (for me).

Do I admire him? What do you think?

Anyways, a bit late but better than never.

As a tribute to the founding father, SIN has changed it's tank logo permanently in memory of him.
