I love tiger family tanks!!! never had a tiger but they are so good and easy to kill, dont know if its the noobs driving it or if its really a bad tank but have no interest in having one

That Awkward Moment When You Realize It Takes More Skill To Win A Forum Argument About Stats Or Light Tank Stat Padding, Than It takes To Win An Actual Random Battle In 5 Minutes Full DPM... And You Also Realize You Spend More Time And Energy Arguing About Skill Related Issues In The Forums Than You Spend Playing The Game Or Padding Your Stats...

well thats the reason I started this topic hehe. Thats the gist of it. For a heavy tank, it seems so easy to kill. Crew gets killed often as well as module damage. For me its more of a medium than a heavy. Just moves like a heavy tank. :( what's sad is that its the main line of tank that I followed... I have the german td as well jagdpanther but I like playing this more than that.

Is this official? http://wotguru.com/w...-guide-tiger-i/

cos based on this, basically 80% of its armor is weak. all green.

Again you are trying to compare the Tiger I ingame to the Tiger I in WW2.

That's the leading misconception of most new players on this game.

If you were to put that into perspective the Tiger I in WW2 did most of it's engagements/kills on more the 1.5KMs here the max draw range is only 500M and engagement usually is at <100M.

This is a game and not a simulator.

If you were to put the ingame Tiger I (Tier 7) on a 5KM x 5KM map and where it only faces the M5 shermans (Tier 5 and which is usually the tank it normally faces during WW2) it's armor is more than enough to bounce any shots by those M4.

WG tried to implement Historical game mode where superior tanks(Tier 5) faced off against inferior tanks(Tier 3/4) results were dismal as no one wants to play with inferior tanks/losing side.

So please don't compare this game to an actual simulator or Historical situations or values since the only thing that's historical here is the "cosmetics".

Also check the demographics on the Tiger I's Battle Tier that would give you the idea of why it's armor is not working as you think it should.

When an enemy Arty "one shots" 2 of your teams' heavies and you're in a heavy tank, you know you're screwed.

A heavy tank should have armor and a big gun, if you don't have either then you're not.

For its tier, yes. Don't rely on Tiger's armor, it's the worst-armored HT in its tier. Rely on its mobility and sheer massive damage potential from its gun.

Hmm, so what makes a tank be categorized as  a heavy tank? It seems more like a td or a medium tank to me. Why is it under heavy tank when most of what its made of is TD like.

That...is a difficult question. You could say that the Tiger I was originally designed as a breakthrough tank by the Germans, thus it fits the "HT" label.

However, ever since the Germans were forced on the defensive IRL, and with fuel shortages, they started camo-ing up their Tigers and using them like TD's as well.

In-game, we have other breakthrough vehicles get designated as TD's (Tortoise, T95) because they are unturreted, and even the turreted T30 which is a derivative of the T29 HT is considered a TD as well (after it was removed from being the tier X HT by the T110E5). Then we have the AMX CDC and AMX ELC TD's get designated as an MT & an LT respectively.

Quite simply, it's arbitrary. Very arbitrary. Many of the tanks get placed in their vehicle classes either because they play like one (CDC), or is designated as such by its designer (Tiger, Obj. 416, AMX 38), or as needed to bridge holes in the tech tree (BDR G1B, T30).

With that being said, now you know that the Tiger I ingame is not a breakthrough tank it is more of a 2ndary support tank but can brawl if needed be by out trading 2/3 for 1 shot.

You leave the tanking to tanks with actual armor ... namely the RU IS4 line of tanks or the JP HTs.

Let them push while you support closely them with your insane DPM.

-----------------------------------------

On another note, the Tiger I ingame that we have is actually better than the historical Tiger I.

You check out the JP HT no.6 or known as the Japanese Tiger I (that's the actual gun caliber that the historical Tiger I actually uses)

Historically speaking, heavy/medium/light tanks are classified by weight. However, as the war went on better engines were invented which meant the category of what makes a tank "heavy" kept going upwards. A B1 tank at the start of WW1 weighed 28t. By mid-war,  the Tiger Henschel was introduced at 54t. By war's end, the Tiger II weighing in at close to 70t was introduced. The reason for the weight classification was because war planners envisioned 3 roles - light tanks in the reconnaissance and skirmishing roles, medium tanks as cavalry units to exploit openings and flanking maneuvers, and heavy tanks in the breakthrough/heavy support role. Weight limitations were calculated to ensure a certain speed could be reached based on existing engine designs, with heavy tanks having the fewest limitations and packing either a big gun, heavy armor, or both.

Heavy tanks continued to be developed in the post-war period (mostly to counter the IS-3) but with the introduction of the universal tank in the Centurion I and the later incorporation of the Conqueror project to form the Chieftain MBT spelled the end of tank classification by weight.

Game-wise, the different tank types enjoy different benefits. Light tanks retain the same camo rating whether moving or stationary. TDs retain camo rating after firing (previously, now no more). Heavy tanks and TDs often pack guns belonging to tanks a tier higher. Medium tanks, as a jack-of-all-trades role receive no in-game bonuses.

Nice info every one. NIce discussion for a change. Thanks all for that. I took the advice of playing it semi td where I stay behind and it works. Still can't compete with tier 9s. most take almost if not half my hp with one shot I think... :(

Try not to compete with tier 9 heavies. The Tiger has enough speed to gatecrash medium brawling areas. Go club a couple of mediums, you should be able to penetrate most tier 9 mediums.

About the Tiger's HP, it is actually pretty meaty. Don't think about the Tiger's armor in terms of ability to bounce shots, but rather ability to absorb shots. Your 1500 HP is no joke when it comes to trading shots. Learn to conserve your HP and later use your HP to out-brawl tanks in mid to late game.

Tiger relies a lot on HP conservation and usage. Sometimes you have to hold back and snipe. Sometimes you trade your HP to secure kills and push. Learning this will also help you improve your game overall.

RIP Aufklärungspanzer Panther 16th July 2015. You will be missed, friend.

I've already tried going toe to toe with mediums, they normally can move faster. My turret is so slow that I can.t get a good shot if they go around in circles. many times this has happened. I agree with the trade for hps to do damage or kill. I've done that too. Nice tip though. thanks.

If MT's can circle you, you're too close to the enemy to utilize one of the Tiger's advantages: accuracy.

You'd want to either be just behind the frontliner tanks, or be the frontliner tank itself with your allies covering your sides and back just in case an enemy MT decides to circle you.

Just remember, if the MT is circling you ... then you're either overextended or you have no support.

They can only circle you if you are tracked. The mobility of the Tiger is good enough to catch up with most strafing MTs. Try actually turning BOTH the hull and turret in the direction of the enemy rather than turret alone. And if that isnt enough, go back up to a wall or rock to force him in front of you.

You need to work on that aspect of positioning more. Heavy tanks cannot afford to get isolated.
