Instead of skill based MM per se, how about the MM take account of skill and simply employ a handicap system on hit points, sorta like horse racing and weights? So, if you come up against God's XV of raging Viking unicorns with your team of Satan's spawn of deepest red clueless tomatoes and you have a win chance of 14%, your team might get a 10-15% HP buff on all it's vehicles?
That way, you can all take an extra shot or two and say in the fight longer, while if you still lose the other guys get to feast on extra XP from the damage?
