Guys please keep it on topic without deviating. Ezz isn't addicted to the forums, they're just that much more interesting than his job.

The interaction is that when you are addicted to a game it absolutely carries over into other areas. I forum because it gives me at least some taste of the WoT drug even when i can't play - well that and yeah, it helps the day go quicker.

I found taking a nice long break helped.

Also, as mentioned in the OP, if memory serves correct, it helps to sit back and see what video gaming is at the expense of in one's life. If you've got stuff to deal with, sure, go deal with it. The flip side of the coin of maturity is having to deal with one's past or present.

As well, we all exist in a social context, be it immediate family, friends, or neighbours. Getting the balance between that and gaming can be hard. I struggle with it sometimes.

Nice thread; ta muchly all.

The trick is to figure out if you do have a problem.

My parents have often said I am addicted.

Yes, when I get home from work, I normally sit in front of the computer, and usually game. I often spend my free time playing Video Games. I sometimes turn down shifts at work and play Video Games instead. However...

Sometimes I'd turn down shifts at work to have all my fingernails pulled out one by one. Its not so much "I need more time gaming" as "I need a break from work".

Sometimes I sit there in front of the computer, think "nope, bored" and go read a book, or play with the dog, or do something else.

And there is no anxiety. If you feel anxious about missing an hour of gaming, or you start feeling down, unwell etc, then there might be a problem, and you should seek help. Currently, I'm finding typing here in the forums and drinking this can of Coke is enough for me. The anxious feeling I had when I tried to walk past the fridge and just get a glass of water was troubling, but sitting here in front of the computer is fine...

Sarge: No, something about hiring better help that doesn't just stand around watching you die!

I don't believe we should kill all the stupid people. Just remove some of the warning signs and let nature take its course...

It's more of a "can't wait to get home to play tanks" instead of concentrating on work, or counting down the hours until you can play tanks more. Going home "sick" or taking sickies because you can't be bothered working and just want to play on your computer. I've been on leave from work for the last week and yes I did spend a lot of my time gaming, HOWEVER, I haven't put any responsibilities in front of it.

If you replaced "Tanks" with "anything else including video games" you've just described my working life for the last 20 years... Although I've never taken "sickies", I have been almost rendered sick by the thought of work.

Kiddies, forget all that crap the guidance councilor's been feeding you. You don't get a job you love, you get a job that pays money so you can afford to do what you love in your spare time...

I look at work and it pays me obscene amounts of money sometimes to deal with idiots, mouthbreathers, pinheads and the general detritus of society.

I have to WG for this privilege.............I would rather not work, but it pays the bills. Gaming/Forumming is somewhat of an escape, but you have to know when to turn off pixels and enjoy HD real life.

Good post Feetfood.

The only thing I have in any way constructive to add is - if you find yourself logging in purely to do dailies, then you can probably find something better to do with your time. First realised it with Tribes Ascend, then with WoT over a year ago. Now realising it again.

Before WoT, there was two other onli9 games i was addicted to. I only stopped the former becoz i followed a friend from the existing game to another, the latter closed down becoz of poor management and rampant cheating.

WoT really brought me close to the edge until my wife gave birth to a son. WoT literally slowed down but not after two threats of divorce. The last was being the most severe.

My solution is keep yourself occupied at all times. The more free time you have, the possibility of addiction is greater. The shoulder of commitment will also keep you grounded.

Currently, i have a job, i am the secretary for my condominium, a father and a clan commander. My play time on avg per day is 4 hrs. The rest is dedicated to other activities.

Spending time with your wife doesn't count as recreation?
