It is difficult to be a new player in this game, but the good thing is you are trying to improve.

1. Map knowledge only comes from playing a lot. there is macro and micro positioning. for macro positioning you can see: https://www.o7gaming.com/ . remember these are rough guides and positioning depends a lot on how the team deploys and the team composition, etc.

2. Go to twitch.tv and follow some of the streamers. you can a learn a lot about positioning, and general tactics from them. A guy i recommend a lot is zeven: https://www.twitch.tv/zeven_na. Try to learn micro positioning here.

This in itself should help you a lot. take your time. see how the team deploys and then decide what to do. if you are in any tank except lights there is no hurry. If you are in a light tank it generally helps if you get early spots. 4tankersanddog on youtube has good scouting guides.

How are your crews? If you are missing a lot then your crews may be the reason. the difference between 50% and 100% crews with skills are huge.

I'm doing better today.  Survived up till the last couple of minutes in all but 2 matches where I was totally "outplayed" (both times in full cover - completely covered and surrounded by bush and taken out by SPG obviously spotted by someone (who saw me shooting) who did not show up on the minimap).  Have managed a number of matches where I managed 2-3 x my HP.  TD's hiding and waiting and moving from cover to cover and the MT moving from cover to cover and firing on the fly.  Better mood :)  Still have issues with the gaming mouse - so sensitive and I am tending to 'pull' shots (twitch when I click)
