Between the Tortoise and the T95 the difference was, and still is, clear as day. The T95 is much better armored frontally with a big but it sacrafices power to weight and gun depression/elevation and gun traverse. The Tortoise has better power to weight with gun depression/elevation and gun traverse but it sacrifices armor to get them and the best DPM in the game.

When you get to tier 10 you couldn't really compare the FV215b 183 and the T110E3 because they had different roles, but the FV217 is a different story as it's also an assault tank.

First impression are that the FV can do everything the E3 can do but better with the exception of traverse speed and terrain resistance as well as penetration and alpha damage. Other then that, the FV seems to just be overall the better tank. Sure the FV has a weak LFP, but the E3's isn't exactly strong, but the FV can angle it due do to it being flat and having nearly twice the gun traverse limits.

Image from before armor buff and official name

To me, the FV seems like the better assault tank for fighting in cities:

  • Good armor
  • High RoF
  • Good Alpha
  • Good Penetration
  • Great gun handling
  • Great traverse angles

It just seems to me that the FV217 will be far better as a city brawler/assault tank then the T110E3... but if that wasn't enough, the FV will also be a brilliant sniper. The base camo is insane. I love my T95 because of it's camo, I've gotten it down to 37.67 when stationary when moving and 24.16 when moving, and I don't play my E3 any more because the T95 is, in my opinion the better tank after it's speed buff... But the FV217 will be able to smash my T95's camo values with crew skills in a heartbeat.

Forget never playing my E3, at this rate I question why I would still want to own my E3 when I could have the arguably superior FV217.

What's other peoples thoughts on this new British tier 10 TD?

Quite liking my T95, was looking forward to the E3 but if this is going to do the E3's job better then I might just hang onto the Doom Turtle and get me a Badger instead.

I think we will have to wait until final release stats before judgement though, 355mm frontal armor sounds a bit extreme, might be "subject to change™"

Absolutely a case of "subject to change". But I think that 355mm of armor will only be on the flat behind the gun and on the 'cupola' area where the crew sit. Judging from the old armor profile.

E3 still has the alpha over the FV217. Minimal exposure means greater survivability.

Also, if I understand the armor layout right, E3 has greater arty resistance over Badger;.

One could argue that the FV217 being more mobile would let it pop in and out of cover faster then the E3, esspecially with the wider gun arc.

And the flat lower plate vs rounded lower plate means the FV could have better peek-a-boom potential.

As for arty protection... time will tell

Will have to see how it plays on the test server and the performance stats a few weeks after official weeks

With sloping the FV217 has close to the same effective armor both head on and when using gun depression. And the FV217 can max out its DPM at 4,800 with bond equipement, premium consumables, BIA... the best everything, the FV217 has a reload speed of 6 sec. the T110E3 with the same set up only has 12.59 sec reload

In the time it take the T110E3 to deal 750 damage the FV will deal 960 damage and will be just as hard to penetrate frontally

This isn't to say the FV is broken. Just that I don't see any reason for the E3 when the FV is as good as, if not better then

Here's just BIA and regular vents+rammer

Looking at the pictures, I would still say that for pubbies the e3 will be a lot harder to pen, whereas the Badger can't face Premium Shells too well.  It is in no means broken, and I really hope that it will be worth the grind, anybody who runs and At 15 -> Tortoise will understand, sometimes you spend more time driving around the map than firing your high DPM gun.

I do have to say, that I like the way they have laid it out though, with the two crew ports being well protected against normal ammo.. proof is in the pudding, as they say!

I broke them up into their tiers for a more reasonable comparison tier for tier. Stats are top configuration only

I am anticipating that the pre-release stats will remain elevated and seemingly amazing whilst WG encourage people to spend money and free xp their way to the 183.

Once this phase is completed and the TD is in-game, whinging will commence by MT drivers who won't like not being able to just punch holes in the face of this (like the maus and type 5 episode). Cries of "I hit '2' and still can't auto-aim it to death from the front",  and "I shouldn't have to flank targets!" will create sympathy with WG who will nerf the crap out of it by enabling large, paper armour weak-spots that any fool can pen at range. WG will use words like "convenient" to describe their heavy-handed changes and make it sound like they are interested in game balance rather than their bank balance.

KraftLawrence - "Don’t be that guy camping and doing nothing while your team dies on another flank – then farm 3k damage and complain your team sucks. That guy is the worst."
