And all that disappears once you fire.

Also, with its tier 5 level view range, it can't scout very well either.

and unlike the tier 8 premium S1, it can't back up fast enough while in siege mode behind the bush to fire without being spotted in return

Owned Tier 10s: Obj 907, IS-7, Obj 140, M60, M48A5 Patton, STB-1, WZ-111 5A, 113, Centurion Action X, Super Conqueror, Badger

I'm going to co-opt this thread because I can't be bothered starting a new one. Just about to get enough XP on my UDES to unlock the suspension or engine upgrades but I am inclined to eschew both and make a beeline for the 105mm gun, By dropping one piece of equipment I will be able to mount the 105mm. So my questions are

1) is there any burning reason to upgrade the mobility first and put off the gun (which I tend to view as the most important feature of a TD)?

2) which two pieces of equipment would be the most important? Currently have rammer, EGLD and binos onboard and all I need to drop is the binocs to mount the gun

Yeah get the gun first. EGLD is kinda useless since it aims in so fast in siege mode. Keep the rammer and probably binos or vents.

Well I had an EGLD in the depot when I bought the thing and no more credits so thats what I mounted. Vents you reckon instead?

Just realised how old this post was, but fwiw, if you find the critical point where the bush goes opaque, then move forward very slightly for your spotting you can still do it. But it's fiddly.

Using rammer net and binocs. Seems to work pretty well. As the OP notes, with net its camo is pretty crazy. Works as an excellent pocket passive scout, plus has that glorious 105.

I'm less than 30k exp away from getting the UDES, but on the Strv S1 I currently run vents, which works pretty well for that. I used to run camo on that, but it was always a bit of a toss up. I find it has pretty insane camo values anyway, so... yeah. Binocs make it an excellent passive scout as it can defeat camo on approaching lights.

Finally got the 105mm a couple of days ago and have been running the recommended setup and things are finally starting to click. I particular I have settled down a bit and stopped trying to force things too much. never been a big fan of passive play because of how dependent it leaves you on your team but realistically its not that much worse than me trying to play above my skill level anyway. Had a pretty lucky one tonight and now my damage is above 10% of all players. Go me!!!

Oh god, you were using the stock gun until now? The top gun from the Ikv 90B? *shudders*

That must've been so painful.

Well I'm pretty sure there were quite a few T9/10s that appreciated my contribution to their Steel Walls. My non camo crew was also another questionable choice that probably made things harder than they needed to be.

It's a tough balance in the Swedish TDs, you can't be too passive or you may be too far from the action or have no LoS to contribute, but of course being too active can get you killed if you do get spotted by a fast boi Soviet MT.

the low DPS also means sometimes you can't kill something fast enough before that target either gets into cover or kills your allies

there's little reason to hang onto the UDES once you've unlocked and can move up to the STRV 103-0, and especially if you have the cash to buy the Strv S1 which just prints credits and makes you slightly less paper to anything with less than 90mm caliber guns (of which there are plenty of at tier 8), but Russian guns are to be feared and prioritized.

Well I had an absolute shocker of a day in the UDES yesterday. Nine straight losses., switched from ANZ to HK mid way to no avail. Only one was a complete failure (zero damage, bottom of the team) and a couple were big damage games including the most heartbreaking one, assault on Karelia, T9, Killed the enemy 50TP and then got popped point blank by the last enemy (M44) and the Comet that made the push with me missed getting in the kill shot by seconds because he had to drive around my dead tank. Enemy wins on time. I gave up in disgust and fell asleep with my 6yo after that.

I know the feeling... it's pretty bad when you get a zero damage game, but it is so much harder than it needs to be at the moment. Right now we have so many LTs who have absolutely no clue what they're doing. If a LT is sitting behind arty, TDs or heavies, it's simply in the wrong place; most especially the first two. Even in the Ikv 90B I can and do spot my own, but with paper armour I just can't afford to get shot at, and most especially artied. These LTs though really need to put themselves in good locations in the early game so we can cripple enemies before they encounter the rest of our team. It doesn't happen though, because the LTs are behind you, and going by how they're playing they probably have a worse view range anyway. The ones that do move up are spotting what heavies would spot (in their corridor), which is just so totally pointless. Ugh! There's a rage thread for this, but you get the idea.
