Hi

I thought i would share this for any new players coming aboard.

Even though it is good to get more players, but I need to be honest upfront with you.

And yes, these are my observations over last 6 years, and my opinion only. You may agree or disagree.

Firstly, you need to realise that the game is not free to play. If you don't pay - you will not get past tier 6. So it is like free demo- then you need to pay.

Even if you spend 30-50 USD and purchase premium tier 8 tank, you will be matched in tier 10s and won't make much credits. maybe 20-30k average per battle.

So this means you need to pay for Premium time to get past tier 6 and that is another 80USD[or so] per year

Secondly, unfortunately Wargaming has NO support. Yes you can raise tickets, you can ask things, but you will always get generic answer that this can't be done, they can't help, they are sorry and  have a lovely day.

You will not be treated as customer, and your are not important. Unfortunately this is how Wargaming decided to treat us, and this will really put you off if you get to deal with Support.

and Thirdly, Wargaming is money making business, so focus is on creating new tanks and ways to make you pay, they don't have much interest in making your gaming experience any better or cheaper as this is the cost for the business, even though you spend hundreds of dollars- don't expect to be treated as valuable customer..

So if you are not planning to spend $100USD per year on this game, don't bother starting,

Don't start as you may get addicted and then you will be really disappointed.

I guess, this may sound like i want to put everyone off to play this game, but I want you to realise the reality now, before you spend hundreds of dollars and thousands of hours playing.

Know it now, and make a knowledgeable decision and avoid disappointment later on, as happy players make gaming experience better for everyone.

Unhappy players go and shoot friendlies

Don't believe me? raise a ticket with support and ask them to do anything insignificant, or fix any problems WG caused, and you will see how unimportant you are.

Cheers and have fun

I've spent about $20/year and none in about 24 months. And most of that was due to feeling generous rather than out of credit earning necessity. Once you learn the ins and outs of the credit economy, make the most of sales or premium time WG give out, and are prepared to grind your credit makers you won't struggle to stay afloat.

yes, if you are top player and play for top clan you can make some gold from Clan wars and earn premium tanks.

Also it helps if you are beta-tester and spend 4 hours per day grinding and testing- i.e. working for Wargaming.

What about other 99% of players?

Who are not top players and not beta-testers or simply can't spend 4 hours per day grinding :sceptic:

To be fair our treasury has been locked for a few years now. And fwiw the 'beta tester' tag was given to everyone in the 2nd transfer. I've not even logged onto one of their test servers. About the most i do for them is offer (sometimes) constructive criticism. I do play pretty regularly tho, but no where near 4 hours a day.

OP appears to have confused the New Player zone with the noob zone.

if you are struggling to progress through the tiers with a 53% win rate then you are doing something wrong with your credit management.

firstly, what is wrong with playing tier6 and under? There are plenty of players that specialise in those tiers.

You can go all out and still make money and progress in the higher tiers. You just need to manage your purchases and your credits, personal reserves help too.

where is WMD? Pretty sure he plays a standard account and has lots of credits and tierX tanks.

Personally, I accepted point 1 and point 3, I can afford premium time and I purchased number of premium tanks as i am not keen to spend twice more time girding credits.

I prefer to pay some money and enjoy the game, i accept that Wargaming is money making business.

But number 2 really puts me off. When you spent hundreds of dollars you expect at least minimal support and respect. WG gives nothing of that.

Anyway, PYRO, PBKAC and all beta-testers. I am sure you can make the living, I am sure you have premium tanks and premium time; and yes your are top players who can call everyone noobs and teach them how to play better- but they wont.

This post is not for you, but new comers

You can go forever about how cool you are, how you can progress without spending a $ and tell us all tales of the world, but if everyone was like you, Wargaming would not be making billions of dollars and will be out of business.

And yes, I can go and progress without premium time and maybe without premium tanks, but it will take me much, much, much longer and I am also in top 10% players, for bottom 80% of players [by skill] this is not possible.

And they need to be aware of that.

To be fair, ability hadn't been mentioned until you did. So yes, while ability does play into the credit economy for sure, there is much more to it. For instance the tiers you play. As joc mentioned, if you are struggling to stay afloat in the upper tiers, just stick to the tiers where you can.

So i guess while you view our responses as a bare bones 'get gud', consider it more of an encouragement to new players. That if they do take the time to learn, that the game can absolutely be played free.

JOC's hit the nail on the head. You can progress higher tiers, but need to be mindful of credit management. Think of it as a personal budget - if you can't afford hog's breath, don't try eating there and running out - it'll end in tears. Take advantage of these grind specials (path to tier 10 tank events), equip sales (at 50%), consumable sales, crew retraining etc.

You can effectively run a tier 10 as many games a day as you like. You'll need to offset that cost by running a tier 6 (or whatever) a few times to top up any credit deficit, but if you were clever about it you should always end up in a positive position.

It's probably easier with prem tanks, prem time etc, but in no way is it impossible to run an account without those luxuries.

I got my T110e5 without a premium tier 8 tank, I just use tier 5-6 to earn silver, on my way to T-10 now :)

I got my STB-1 without spending a dollar on this game.

Generally if you're a better player, you won't need to shell out hundreds of dollars every month...

I've gotten to the Leopard 1 in the past not paying a cent.

So far I've only bought a T-34-3, and an M 41 90 GF. All other premium tanks were either gifts from very generous friends, or earned. Same with all the gold I have.

Your first point is a little over the top. Pretty sure there are many new players who can get tier 7 and 8s pretty easily, and not lose money. Most of the tier sevens are only (roughly) 1.5 mil or something.

Same here with me, I played the past year without paying a cent and truthfully I am not a good player

I got the T 25 from a friend after my account got hacked and AC 4 from event, and before that I used my Jumbo to earn credits

And yes if you manage your money properly its not impossible to get to tier 10 without paying anything

To be honest. I stopped at t7 for around a year. All I wanted was a panther and a su100. I actually enjoyed playing at that level.  And my skill level still is at that level after another 3 years. Yes I have t10 & a few t9's but apart from a few t8 prems I like the lower teirs becaise my reaction time doesn't allow me to even think of competing agianst younger players. It's about competing agianst yourself rather than any end goal.  That's my 2 cents

Tbh stopped reading at the first sentence; I got my first tier 10 without a premium account or a premium tank. Yes it takes a hell of a long time but but it's possible to do so for the casual player. Not to mention there are great tanks in every tier; you don't HAVE to play tier 10.

I cant agree on the first point, credits become harder to obtain as the tiers increase but certainly not impossible. I ground out the E100 line without spending cash.

Yes WG is lacking in this department but I have gotten both good and bad experiences from support.

$100 a year would certainly improve your WoT experience, but it's not mandatory. I suppose players consider if spending $100 equals the enjoyment they receive from playing.

I only played up to T6 for over a year before going up the ranks or spending any money. It's definitely doable indefinitely. Build up enough cash that way and you'll have more than enough to get you through to T8 at the very least, should you go further up.
