Try not to troll in the New Player's zone too much.

When you should use binos:

1) When u just started the game its good to have as it is demountable and can be used on all vehicles.

2) Low tier tanks that have extremely poor VR which cannot be maxed with the use of optics, crew skills or food.

3) TDs or stationary tanks that don't move much. Or passive scouts.

When to not use binos:

1) Tanks that need to be on the move a lot

2) Tanks with good enough VR in which optics will always be a better choice

3) Active spotting light tanks.

To answer OP properly.

Yes Binocs is worth having. However you only need 2 of them and use the auto-equip mod so you never have to buy any more of them.

However they are very situational and only really needed on a few tanks. Optics does the same job but better as you do not have to stop and wait X seconds for them to activate.

I also run optics on tanks that I probably shouldn't *cough* Maus *cough* but it's always better to be able to be active than passive while playing.

They are useful in the tiers where playing passive still matters. Ie mid tiers at most.

That being said I'm now somewhat curious what a fully kitted Sheri with binocs view range ends up at. My t49 running optics and vents etc. is over 500 so I'd guess the Sheri would be pushing 600.

I use binos on my low-tier LTs for clubbing, but T7 and up I use optics + food + vents (VStabs is the last equipment slot) on all LTs. You can't put a rammer on French LTs anyway and vents help with that French aimtime.

Best of both worlds - bino-distance view range but no need to stop for 3 seconds to activate it. Hell yeah.

The downside is of course that you're running food, witch has well-known drawbacks. But I think it's a very good trade and just buy tons of food when it's on sale (in fact, since I don't grind a lot of tech trees, food is probably my single greatest credit expenditure).

LT-playing masochist. It's too much fun to be a mosquito.

Not worth it at full price, otherwise put it on your more defensive tanks that you won't be moving too much around in. Turretless TDs almost mandatory.

Just as I'd recommend mounting Toolbox on certain Heavy Tanks if you're unsure of what to equip on 3rd slot (or just plan to breeze through), you could mount binos on light tanks you just recently bought and are unsure of how you plan to play it. Hopefully, you'll soon enough convert to the coated optics master race.

Just remember that not everyone has crews with 5 plus skills, so their VR is not max'ed out and their tank doesn't dodge and weave like a circus acrobat.

So new players practicing passive scouting will gain more from bino's than CO.

When their crew skills increase then CO would be better'ish.

You don't need 5 skills to max out the view range....

You didn't read the whole message. VR wasn't the whole story. Tank performance was also included.

Incorrect. incorrect incorrect,

You do need view range on all the city maps.

And on city maps you need to learn how to be a damage dealer as spotting is pointless in a lot of cases.

you should not binocs on Light tanks You should optics, that's it :E

Your opinion is not shared by several super unicums who felt that Binocs are sometimes a better option than Optics for Light Tanks.

Key word being SOMETIMES. Optics are almost always better for light tanks.

Every 1 in 20 or so top tier battles i think to myself that binocs might have been a good idea.
