Hey all,

I've been hearing A LOT lately about how horrible tier 8 matchmaking is at the moment and I would like to know specifically what is making it so bad.

Be advised that I am not an advocate for +2 matchmaking by any lengths.  I've only got as far as tier 5 and I see tier 7s in nearly every game I play.  Essentially I want to know whether tier 8s fighting tier 10s "feels" the same as tier 5s fighting tier 7s?

Q: Is it just the +2 that makes it bad (practically never being top tier)?  Or is there something else that I'm not aware of?

Feels worse owing to armor and pen levels plus tier 10 players tend to be more competent than tier 7 players.

Ah right so the gap in vehicle strength is greater and player skill (makes sense) - thank you.

Yeah. Be aware that Tiers 8, 9, and 10 all require you to learn new skills, each set harder and somewhat different that what you may have learned in the previous tier.

Most people can blunder their way up to Tier 6 or 7 and at least do alright, but if you don't know what you're doing from 8 and up, you'll just be a passenger along for the ride in any matches you play (and nobody likes freeloading passengers).

Also, there are a lot of tier 8 prems in the game and many players run them either to grind credits or train crews.

As such they are usually well crewed (3-5 skills) and being played often, are played very well (read abuses their strengths and hides weaknesses, and dun make silly mistakes often)

I hear some even put improved equipment in their tier 8 prems.

Also, due to higher credits they make, they r not squirmish about using prem rounds.

It is a nightmare for stock tanks.

Tier 8 is also where the xp grind starts to get really tedious, you should save up some free xp and skip a couple of modules.

All my tier 8 prems have very bad crews, generally training them up for my keeper tanks. Everything else spot on.

Also i do not think people would have improved equipment on their tier 8 prems because it takes 200 bonds to remove them iirc, most of the guys will definitely use them on their tier 10s.

Tier 8 is a nightmare, tier 9 is ok, and tier 10 is great... except for the 2684.

Same here, my 252U had train 2 set of crap crew to get first skill, but the nice HE spam and reserve make it quick and profitable :D

Will be starting the BC 12t grind real soon (once I balance out my crew). Not looking forward to what's close to 600k exp to elite it.

I stayed away from playing that thing like it was the plague, as it's arguable the worst French LT tier-for-tier. Most Free XP I've ever spent in one place was unlocking both the AMX 30 and 13 90.

Well, I've only had a few games in it so far, and it seems to handle alright. Coming from the 13 75 it certainly feels good being able to pen things again. First game was mid tier, which was alright. Had one top tier game, but can't really say much about that experience other than the other top tiers (a HT and MT) simply camping. I guess that's how I should play my LT from now on. Bottom tier games just make me go "hmmm". Tier X matches are so slow, and even the enemy teams can be a bit weird too. There was one instance where an enemy decided to focus me, tried to go past two of my team mates, but wouldn't shoot them; got blocked in by those two team mates, and still wouldn't shoot them. His gun was following me, even though he was having a hard time trying to get a shot. We ended up exchanging shots, one each, and all that cost him his full health. Very strange. Very, very strange. Tier X games I guess... where all the pros are. Oh yes, and all the tier X heavies fire gold. Top tiers firing gold...

Edit:

I can accumulate exp faster on the 13 75 than on that BC 12t, but it's early days yet, and I still have to see what it can do.

Nah, it's very different I tell you.

Unlike Tier 7, Tier 10 is a hotbed of competent players, often unicums who exploit the current circumstance. Given that the new MM uses the 3/5/7 MM and the fact that Tier 8s are often bottom tier, most use Tier 9s and Tier 10s. Often, they might even use premium ammo because it's a free game and they can do whatever they want.

Lately, there has been numerous power creeps and questionable tanks as well. We have the Obj 268 4 which only has pixlepoint of weakspot that even premium ammo can't penetrate guarantee. Not to mention, it has mobility that is somewhat comparable to medium tanks. We have the Type 5 HT that can fire HE derp yet boasts thick armour that tier 8s will have issue penetrating from the front. Guess what, the Type 5 can shoot the track of a Tier 8 and do 500 dmg without aiming.

I'd say, it is easier for a Tier 5 to play in a Tier 7 match than Tier 8s playing in a Tier 10 match. Most are currently avoiding Tier 8 due to terrible matchmakings... except for those who grind credits or those grinding up lines.

2/3 of the way thru the bc12t grind (baby batchat + 13 90 unlocked) and I agree it’s a pretty shitty grind

its actually quite a fun tank but it’s gimped because of what it’s up against - outvisioned, outgunned and nearly outrun by most higher tiers can make life pretty tricky for this lil frenchy...all it’s advantages are negated by most tier 9s and 10s

thank god for FL to help with the grind

probably because the 13 75 is a competitive tank and can have a greater influence in a battle, something the bc12t struggles to do in all those +2 games

and tier 7 is just a much friendlier environment...

Basically the gap between tier 8 and 10 is far more brutal than the gap for any other 2 tier spread.

You are almost always bottom tier, like any other tier the bottom tier is often a 2 or 3 shot for the tier 9's/10's as they share the same guns, but on top of that tier 8's have the same DPM as tier 6's which is nowhere near enough considering the health increase so you need to expose for far longer to get any meaningful damage out, which is often met with you losing a third or more of your hp.

You have to be a support role all game every game no matter what tank you are in.

You can never understand tier 8 meta since it is heavily effected by tier 10s. But I can say that playing mediums and lights of tier 8 is as useless as trying to fight a Maus in a tier 7 tank.
