It really is bizarre that WG couldn't announce this earlier. It's not like setting up a new server and switching everyone over to it is a last minute thing, this would of taken a decent amount of preparation. Who is in charge of communication for WOT asia? I think they need a new job, how hard is it to put up a notice on the wot launcher regarding a server change ?

"Bizarre" really IS the word here. This goes beyond simple incompetence on the part of the server management staff to something that's just... baffling.

 

How on earth do you stuff something like this up when a single short FYI email sent to the comms team at some point over X number of months would have averted so much trouble?

I wonder how many like me just paid cash for premium  time or tanks who would not if told of this move to HK :angry: no more cash from me. Im from perth WA 300-400 ping is not fun at all ANZ server pop to low till late here thanks a lot :facepalm:  how to kill a game 101.

Thing is they did kind of rumor it on the HK subforum a month ago.

 

I mean, of course must spread the good news, right?

Really? Thats mean some local staff knew about it long time ago.

Gag order maybe who knows but its sus. not the right way to treat your players for sure very sad and angry about this spent tons of cash to support this game feel let down no more.

I've been thinking .. well they moved to HK this would be a good time to move the ANZ server to SG  ....  sounds good to me   :honoring:

The aus server is unplayable for me today, but I've got a decent connection to Hong Kong. I live an hour from Sydney, [edited] is this >_<

Well number can be crunched in all sort of ways. Here in Australia we have an approximate potential player base of 4-5 million males between the age of 12-49, and a trillion dollar economy. So a server in Australia makes sense.

 

However there are still too many barriers for WG to take advantage on this potential.

 

(1)The initial game download is HUGE and must turn off a heap of guys willing to give it a go. They need a smaller initial download for new players that allows then to play PvE battles in tier 1&2 tanks on a handful of maps. And then allow them to download the rest of the game in bite sized chunks as they want to increase to more maps and higher tier tanks.

 

(2) Once they complete this huge download, they then have trouble spawning a tier1 battle, they just time out. Again a PvE option for lower tiers would fix this problem. When the AUS server population is low they also get timed out, this can be fixed by tier limitations (only tier 1, 6, 8 - same tier battles) until the server numbers hit a certain threshold. Then even if only 30 players are on the server, they should no longer get timed out

 

(3) Once they get to tier3 , new players are obliterated by seal clubbers and just generally outplayed by players with better crews, tanks, and general game knowledge. And once they get to tier 4 it gets worse because their puny tier4 tanks just get wrecked even more easily by tanks 2 tiers above them.

 

WG need to do more about making this game noob friendly, as to get them hooked, and give them time to develop basic skills before they are thrown to the wolves in random battles. To grow the player base, they need to attract new players and allow them to have fun, enjoy success.

 

People talk about arty, premium ammo, +2 matchmaking, powercreep, and all these oter problems klling the game, I would put new player retention as the most important of them all. But as no-one here is a new player, no-one seems to give a damn

But sadly game breaking. I don't think even WG would go down that path.

T1,2,3 could use pve for sure. I was [edited] clueless for 5k games, mostly due to bottom feeding sealclubbers. Pve solves that clusterfuck at least.

Single tier battles would basically break the foundational WG grind which their business model relies on. Further it would be annoying as hell if you are the sort of player who doesn't just play 6 or 8 (or whichever tiers) as you'd need to change servers all the time. My guess is WG would sooner just shut the ANZ server than go for something like this.

I moved from the North American server excited by the thought of playing this game with a lower than 250 ping, choice of 3 servers at one stage. East, West and central.

As soon as I moved over the Singapore cable was broken so my ping was high but I had the ANZ server as well. Great, except if I wanted an early game.

Cable fixed and bingo, 2 servers, one with ping between 50 and 70 and the other around 120 both very playable which allowed me the option of some early games on the Singapore server, then switch over for the evening games on the ANZ server.

But now we no longer have the Singapore server as it appears to have been replaced by the Hong Kong server which gives me a ping on average of 330 (with NBN) unplayable.

So now I'm left with the ANZ server which has an average of 100 players in the morning its about 1pm in W.A and the player base has climbed to 200. I look at the Hong Kong server with its 5000 players and know that I am guaranteed a game within a minute of queuing. Every game I try to join on the ANZ server times out.(until the evening)

I am a shift worker hence I play morning and night dependent on my work schedule, I cannot describe how disappointed I am with this decision to replace the Singapore server with the HK server if that is actually what has happened.  I have gone from a choice of 3 servers in Nth America to 2 with Singapore and ANZ and now down to 1 (which is fine if you have the players to make it work).Its a shame Armored warfare couldn't provide a decent alternative.
