It will do a lot more to fix your connection than screaming at WG in the forums and blaming them.

Sure, they pulled this from out of nowhere, complain and be angry about that instead.

Not the fact that you have 3000000 ping, that's your ISP routing sub-optimally.

Edited topic title and pinned for the duration while players are having server woes.

Those experiencing lag issues, please do a traceroute and post the results in this thread.

~neokai

Dear Players, Id prefer you not to provide Tracert's into a public forum.. They contain some personal information / location.
So please send them through to support instead.
The ones in this thread i'll send to our techies, and then hide from the forums.

Regards Tan

I have contacted my ISP and made angry noises at them.

Apparently my ISP thinks the best way to get to Hong Kong from Singapore is to bypass Hong Kong, go further down to Tokyo, then make a U-turn back to Hong Kong.

RIP Aufklärungspanzer Panther 16th July 2015. You will be missed, friend.

But not for long. For "Heroes never die."

Given that my previous pathway to the SG server was Broome to Perth to Singapore for 100ms ping could pls advise what wondrous routing magics will return my now 300+ms ping to what it was? Zero width wormholes perhaps? You know just so I can help my ISP out ideas when I call them.

Funnily enough when attempting to send through an inquiry to my ISP their website crashed, twice. Third time was the charm, we shall see what happens.

Hijacking this thread to collate all the pings and traceroute data.

P.S. Also leaving the thread in GD till the weekend so it gets more eyeballs. Will move the thread to technical support over the weekend.

My traceroute data.

Hello
all, thank you. We would prefer you send your traces to Support to help with you privacy. I have recorded the ones here already.

For those who want to go ahead and call their ISP, you can tell them that you are connecting to a server in HK and they are routing the connection to weird places. For example, the player above me routes them to France for some reason... Try asking for a more optimized connection routing to HK

You either die a hero or you live long enough to see yourself become the villain. Guess which one I am.

It's very unlikely that most ISP's give a **** past

1. Your internet is working

2. You're getting roughly the advertised speed you pay for

How things get to places and back they generally aren't interested in, nor how long it takes things to get there.  As long as they get there in the end they've done their job.

those in TPG group should be relatively ok. Checked Internode yesterday. Perth (84ms), Brisbane (130ms), Adelaide (120ms). There maybe be slightly more over heads from your individual premises but it seems Internode (and potentially iiNet/Tpgs) routing is good/ok to the server. Hopefully when more of the routing is sorted it will actually work out better for ANZ players.

Also let it be known we have a ANZ periphery. If we want to keep it we need to use it. If we want it to open 24/7 or at least longer? We need to use it. I know it’s very much s chicken and egg situation with the day player base. But how many people from ANZ sat purely on the SG server? This doesn’t help the ANZ server that we where all crying for years to WG about.

Routing is generally optimised automatically.  The initial routing will be based on various metrics but once it is determined that a more direct route is available then routing tables will be updated and propagated across the networks automatically.  This however may take several days for all ISPs, hence why WG have requested your current routing and they may discuss directly with key ISPs

Further, they are responsible for carriage of your traffic to endpoint destinations.  Most likely as you hinted at, your initial technical support interaction will only check your local connection to their infrastructure, but that is a minor part of what they can do.

The Dude abides.
