Hello fellow Tankers,

I have been playing a bit of arty of late.  I'm a bit of a slow learner but I have finally worked out that doing big damage is not the most efficient way to get mastery (ace tanker) in artillery.  A balance of stun assist and raw damage is needed.  In the following video I demonstrate this by playing 2 games.  In the 1st game I do good damage and secure a "gore" medal but only get a class 1.  In the next game I do less damage but more stun damage and get mastery.  Enjoy :)

I usually ace arty by demonstrating my skilled use of the mouse in one hand and playing another game on my phone for 30-40s after i click. I repeat that for about 7 minutes and realise I've aced my tank.

A useful guide. Ace Tanker is hard to get nowadays. Heck it is possible to finish SPG 15.3 without one.

Mastery are easy, its gun marks however, are things reserved for the greatest. I believe now, none in forum had a 3rd mark arty since heindv(?) quit.

1940- In 2018, we will have flying cars.

Getting stun damage is certainly going to help, but be prepared for a lot of games where you stun tanks right in front of your teammates only for them to stubbornly refuse to shoot. Stuns can also be healed instantly using a first aid kit, which might result in you missing out on any damage. Due to the mechanics of stun damage calculations, you want to be the one who stuns first as hitting an already stunned vehicle gives you a much smaller share of the damage.

 

There are other things that add to the experience equation too, such as winning, wiping out the enemy entirely, getting kills, hitting higher tier vehicles, assist damage, cap resets and even capping and spotting, although you don't really want to be doing those last two until it's very late in the game and the things you're most likely to blunder into are other SPGs. Still, if you want to get a mastery in an SPG that can't stun or splash much, such as the FV304, those are the ways to go about it.

Because they are ingame too busy 3 marking probably. I know lots of arty players in STEAM have 3 marks on most if not all tier x spg, hanky in LIFE has 3 on the t8 m40/m43 i think?

5134 damage but only 208 stun = class 1.  A very good example of the importance of stun damage.

They use the M44.  Probably the best arty in the game

Yes, your right about players not shooting tanks that you stun.  It is a gamble.  As I mentioned in the video its very similar to spotting assist in a light tank.  We all have those games where we have 10 tanks spotted for the entire game and nobody on our team is brave enough to poke out from the rock and shoot.  :)

I would agree on the importance of stun damage to get the higher ranking, I have achieved Gores Medal twice in the M53/M55 so 4k damage each time but the first one was only 2nd class, the second included both more stun damage as well as some actual spotting damage and was an Ace.
