I've been grinding the 705A line, and it appears that the common characteristics worth noting are the horrendous mobility and inaccurate gun. I'm at the IS-M and its mobility just irks me so much. Armor is good but with that kind of speed, you can't do fast pokes or push fast at all. I guess I've been playing too much mediums lately lol.

According to tanks.gg, 705A has roughly 14~15hp/ton and 40kph top speed with IS-7 terrain resistances (1.3/1.8/3.0), looks pain but is it slow as shit in practice?

It's not too slow, good fun to play though it does turn like a beached whale however. The 705 sucked, I enjoyed selling it.

705a has a similar issue to the 705, in that if your opponent knows where to aim it has weak side armour making it tough to side scrape effectively. Unlike the 705, the frontal hull armour can be amazing, even the lower plate can be quite tough when angled well and can troll people hard.

Other then that, it's gun is a huge improvement on the 705 though it's still stupidly inaccurate, don't expect many fully aimed shots to hit where you're aiming. Low pen heat rounds on top of inaccuracy make trying to deal with mice or other heavily armoured tanks where you still need to hit weak spots with your premium rounds frustrating and very trolly. Expect games where none of your shots hit.

Reassuring to hear it's more enjoyable than the 705. I shifted the crew out of there the moment i finished the grind. I guess i'll put the A on the 'buy maybe, at some point, maybe' list.

Isn't the 705/705A basically impenetrable while sidescraping unless overangled?

The issue with the 705 is that you don't have a great deal of tolerance for over angling if you want to shoot. The ISM gave you considerably more room for safe sidescraping.

The gap between the tracks and the angled ridge above it is only 100 mm, meaning you only need around 230 mm of pen to go through when it's angled at less then 70 degrees to you, and the turret is more centrally located then rear mounted, so to angle it so you can't pen it means you're likely exposing your front plate and front drive wheel, of which it's not too hard to pen through the drive wheel.

705 shoulders can be penned if you fire prem. 705a is a bit better. Can always shoot HE.

Yep, even though the IS-M doesn't have the angled spaced armour on the sides of the 705 and 705a, the turret is mounted further to the rear allowing you to hide more of the front of the tank, and as it actually has MORE side armour then either the 705 or 705a the IS-M can angled harder than either the 705 or 705a before getting penned. Basically the IS-M has better side armour than the tier 9 and 10 tanks following it, I really enjoyed the IS-M, got my first pools medal in it :D

I still think it's morally wrong so in fact I'm right.

I like the 705A, but I suspect half the reason it goes so well is there aren't too many of them and thus people just don't know where to shoot them.

They are currently a fairly easy tank to get good games out of.

705 got pretty weak turret too, 300+ pen will cheese it. 705A turret seems stronk, I think its worth it to go up there.

If it interests you, it's a 100-ton tank that goes 40kph. Might be a new ramming-tank for you.

Well it's a pretty good tank i had 70% winrate in first 28 games with 90% crews and no 6th sense

good gun for firing HE at sidescrapers or hulldown tanks

and its armor is strong too, no jpanzer e100 have managed to pen me with HEAT, just keep in mind to wiggle the turret because it has flat section which is <315mm

Not liking the 705 personally, I just likes the way it looked. The gun is atrociously inaccurate at times.

Here's hoping the 705A is better.
