So when I go into siege mode the tank seems to stick its arse in the air as high as it can and point the gun out at the target at a very large angle to the hull when there doesn't seem to be a need for it.  How do I stop this happening?

It elevates when you point the gun down. If you want it to go flat again point the gun up.

P.s., the udes IS a glass cannon.

OK, let me put is a different way.  I can aim at the target in non siege mode.  Same target, did not move, enter siege mode and the arse of the tank goes up to max.  Its got to the point that I don't enter siege mode unless I can't aim at a target via any other means.

From the wiki:

"Tip to use low cover effectively: hide behind cover, activate siege, aim low (that raises your butt) and then straight. That raises your gun above cover so that you can fire. Undo Siege to lower your whole tank to get back under cover. Repeat."

Is just how the game engine works unfortunately.

As above, you can just aim up to your butt to lower.

Might want to provide replay or a vid to aid troubleshooting. The posters above me have explained the general mechanic (in siege mode the tank raises its butt to match your gun's depression as you aim). It will take you a bit to get used to siege mechanics, but that's the gist of it.

Also, the UDES is a glass cannon, so every gun will overmatch you if you expose too much of your tank.

Or activate Siege mode from behind the hill, then sneak up to take the shot.

Don't worry, the STRV's are all the same.

It's only the UDES that's different because of its gun not fixed on the hull so it controls weird; thus the UDES is an arse because of its butt.

And its camo rating if used correctly is a beast, had a game recently where the m41 must been like 20m from my UDES I was peak-a-booing over a crest in siege mode with shrubbery in front of me, he no clue I was there until I shot him up the up for a ammo-rack/engine fire. Also in siege mode its a awesome mountain goat....
