I was told about new patch. Ran my own study. Prior to patch getting a low tier game on this server was literally impossible. (So assumedly starting as a new player on this server was IMPOSSIBLE). Have always been an extremely VOCAL opponent of the 3 tier spread. (In a nutshell, a three tier spread, IF FAIR should see 1 high tier game, 1 low tier game, and two mid - tier games per four games played). As we all should know, the game doesn't do that, especially if you have a few games under your belt. Most importantly to me, was the fact that numerous friends had started the game with me, and left, due to perceived unfairness in the MM. To my mind its simple. A two tier spread, with an evenly distributed number of high and low battles WILL ensure that people at least think they are getting a fair go. For YEARS WG has stated that such a spread would lead to inordinate wait times. That has been stated all along. WG told us that with servers hosting 10000+ players, wait times would increase. Well, WG just implemented a Micro patch that introduced the two tier spread to a server that starts the day with 100 people and ends the day with maybe 2000.

RESULT: (AND I THINK IT IS A GREAT ONE FOR THE SERVER AND WG):


 

8 AM on ANZ Server.
T127  - Timed out at 5 mins twice.

 

Changed to HK server. (Only after some difficulty. It didnt want me to do it for a while) (H or L denotes wether I was High or Low tiered)

14 Battles. 27 kills. 7 Battles as high tier. (50%) ..... Significant difference. Tier 5 games became 3 out of 6 High. (50%). Two tier 4 games were High (100%) Of 6 tier 2 and 3 games, 2 were high (33%). Total high games in tiers 4-2 were 50%.

Total for day - 51 battles. Around 88 kills. 4 high calibre. 3 confederate. 1 steel wall, 1 defender, 2 cool headed.

So, if you want to play tier 1-4 on australian server before evening you will find it difficult, even with new bots included system, to get a game. Simply not enough people playing tier 4 or less. So maybe even more bots will be needed to save lower tiers on this server. During day
 Tier 5 is perfect. Always high tier. Probably because there are enough people playing this tier that, with the addition of bots, a game can be generated. From 6pm onwards things change. Enough players choosing tier 6 that half your tier 5 games become low tier games without bots. Now, with 4x more players, low tier games are possible. All 8 lower tier games didnt time out. Bots featured in the lower tier games, but I did not note how many or which games. Sorry. Forgot.

Result: you want to play tier 5 during day. As evening progresses, start playing lower tiers. I did not test tiers 6 and up. Probably a standard of between 33-50% low tier.

 

 

Understand, I am not having a go at WG over this. This may save the server (lets face it 200 players in a country featuring at least 11 MILLION males!). If anything, my one day of checking would suggest that if ANYONE wants to start on the ANZ server, then maybe 15 tanks teams may need as many as 12+ bots per side to survive. Quite simply, 7 bots per side still does NOT allow games from tier IV and below to be played. Given that I only play against bots in World of Warships, I don't consider this an issue. I haven't enjoyed WoTs so much for years.

Well DONE WG, KEEP IT UP EVEN MORE.

Oh, of note for you PzII J guys out there. THE standard MM prior to the patch ENSURED that PzIIJ got all tier 3-4 games. ie. It ALWAYS saw tanks one tier up. For the PzIIJ this is important. Its a premmie that some unfortunates paid as much a $200 for ONLINE at one stage. I got mine for about $45. Given that the MM was changed so it always saw higher tiers, this was pretty rude. The IIJ CANNOT actually penetrate at least half the tier IV types, AT ALL. So in other words, prior to the micro patch, PzIIJ owners could not damage at least half the tanks they saw. EVER. Note the results above. Since the micro patch, I deliberately played the PzIIJ to see if there was a change. I actually got two games as HIGH tier ie. With tier IIs involved. Both were nice games, and the first time in a while that I think I got a fair go in this vehicle. At night on ANZ you will see tier IIs sometimes.

I am loving the new MM,, no matter what tier I play  the games are more enjoyable again

I'm liking the new MM as well especially since I have a few Tier 8 tanks. Those constant 3/5/7 bottom tier matches sucked.

Yep good work on the new MM. Really needs to be rolled out across all servers though, I was surprised that it hasn't.

+/-1 MM is definitely a success. The tier 8 grind in anything but an SPG was torturous when EVERY battle was against tier 10. Now at least you can occasionally be relevant in battle while grinding through tier 8 :)

 

The BOTS are also a win. I'd given up inviting friends into the game because they could never start. Tier 2 matches were literally impossible. And the HK server has so much lag (for me) that newbies assumed the game was buggy and glitchy when they tried it.

 

WG gets a lot wrong. And obviously their primary motivation is to make money (they are a business after all!). But they got this right. Yay!

I have to agree with the +/-1 MM, i just came back after stopping in 2015 and I really quite like it so far

Well it was until they "tweaked" it again. Seeing more tier 10's again.

That tweak is just the holidays with lots of new players coming aboard, that will throw out the MM untill the holidays are done. Then watch the MM reset to what iwas before the holidays. You have to be a real diehard WoT gamer to play year in and year out, as a lot of newbies put this game into the too hard category. As has been said in these and other forums. "WoT is easy to play but difficult to master".

yep all seal bashes & those purple players who never play any top tier random battles love the bots. easy kills & damage.what a fuking dumb idea by wargaming or is it the [edited] in this forum who suk up to wargaming & the moderators like wasabi, who like all so called expects on this forum you never see in random battles except wasabi I saw him once in 6 years at the end of the 6 years so these guys have no credibility whatsoever yet think they have the power to shut anybody up that disagrees with them.

Its either bots or no game.  There simply were not enough players on the server to play.

I don't believe the tweak had anything to do with the holidays.  It was apparently to ensure quicker match making for tier 10's.  Whilst I sympathise with people wishing to play tier 10, it wreaks the game for tier 8's
