As many have been expecting, Asia's anti-Gatcha laws are catching on elsewhere.

Maybe next year everyone's Christmas loot boxes will work the way ours do.

Ars Technica:  Five countries and one US state team up to fight gambling in video games

For now, this is probably aimed more at mobile games, but regardless, the loot box regulation is coming.

And just like a gaming company would do, they decide this is not related to their own game and shift this to off-topic. ;)

WG already made their changes last year so no, it is not relevant to this game.

If you want to complain about how the other servers might be different then do it on their forums.

Hmm because its not as if we don't still have loot boxes in some form, or that changes in another server/jurisdiction could ever circle back here again.

All manner of things get shifted in here. It's kinda like the old style rugging except a bit more subtle.

It would be rugging if it was locked and no one could reply.

On THIS server, sure.

The other servers are still selling lootboxes which would violate the anti-Gatcha laws which affect our "jurisdiction".

So as I said, feel free to bring it up on their forums, you can discuss it here but it is off topic for this server so this thread will stay here.

I'd like to thank our favourite game publisher EA for bringing this to the forefront of everyone by locking their entire games under lootboxes.

Who knew EA could do something positive for the video game industry!

Because after all, they are still selling loot boxes here... just called it something else.. LOL

Don't worry, there's a mobile game for that!

I have to say, WG's model of mobile games deserves some recognition for not being as drowned in microtransactions as other publishers...

i'm confused? those signatories are all european (except the state of Washington). as far as i'm concerned no asian ountry has anti-gacha laws, and i don't see the indo govvy going to give a damn about it anytime.

In a separate news article Australia is considering an anti-gacha law. Korea, Japan, China and I think Taiwan already have gacha laws or related legislation. Singapore might consider such laws in the future, but at present it's taking a wait and see approach. Malaysia has other things on its plate and honestly esports and cyber-games are low on its priority list. Indon... well let's just say that Indonesia is not known for its enforcement strength. Ph, Thailand and many other SEA countries aren't at the point where cyberwellness is a major concern imo.
