Best of luck. I would recommend the Soviet Obj261 or German for T10 as the stun duration and damage depends heavily on how close your shot lands But american SPG line is definately enjoyable all the way to T10.

Artillery is much harder than i thought but its good to break the monotony , i guess it'd be better on the larger tier 6 maps and up .

On Himmseldorph whatever its called , nowhere really to hide .

there are certain maps that will make you feel stupid.

try working on your aim on both mode. One provides a high arc shot where else the second one offers a lower and more direct arc to your target. Use ctrl often on mini maps to move your aim to the desired sector quickly. I have seen people in T10 SPG still frantically move their mouse to zone in on targets few sectors away... Which always amuses me, i admire their tenacity, but their ignorance is just whole new level by itself.

Thankyou on the tip on the mouse , i was trying to move my mouse with wide sweeping of my mouse across the mouse pad . In the direct aim mode dont you still have to mouse aim  out to the target ?

on an open map i have got a few direct hits (destroyed) but its not as easy as people would assume .

once you go shift, you can alternate between two modes by hitting crtl key if i was not mistaken. you still have to aim. on mini maps the ctrl key with mouse click is for getting where you want to aim, then the normal mouse control for zero in on targets.

How do you give the cmd " Targeting (such and such tank) F8 in 6 seconds " ?

Thankyou , yer its shift then G to switch aim modes ? Still takes awhile for the reticle to zero in to fire and also

make sure obstructions are not in the way .

Rather a dead loss when i choose Arty and the map Abbey comes up full of buildings , also the speed at which

Stuarts etc can traverse to me .

So atm it is the hardest to play , would be better on larger maps like its ok on Glacier etc . or Sand river .

But makes a good change .

It is normal, the aim time is about 4-6 second at later game play. Best get used to it at lower tier before going high tier. If you cant aim at fast moving tanks then try going for the slower ones or stationary ones.

Lower tier is quite frustrating for SPG because everyone is on a Light or Medium tank but once you hit like T7 onwards there will be plenty of slow moving targets and less LTs and MTs.

Bugger the SPG  , tried them up till tier IV , the hit ratio isnt what i can get in a light tank , to far from the action and a sitting duck .

Be ok if someone had the thought to backup the SPG

tier 5 grille or lefh105(premium)
rier 6 m44
tier 7 gw panther
tier 8 m40/43 or su 14 2
yier 9 m53/55
tier 10 conqurer gun carriage

there is no fun to play spg below tier 5.
hope you got the answer.

nobody cares about the spg at tier 4, dun bother.

best to keep moving and stay close/behind your main force.

spgs generally sucks up till you get the long range gun.

at low tiers, dun bother trying to hit fast moving lt/mt.

instead, go for still targets like bush camping tds, passive lts or tanks who think they are arty safe...and those who are distracted they forgot about arty.

I still think it's morally wrong so in fact I'm right.

The little french prem arty is the go. Nasty little piece of work it is.

To target something, press "T".

Pressing "G" changes your arty view after you press shift to get into arty top view (I think).

Totally ignore this. Stay on the US line.

By far, and I mean daylight second, the best arty for general play and missions is the M53/55 with the stock gun. Stock guns on nearly all lines have higher RoF, are more accurate and aim faster.

The 53/55 is hyper accurate, is very fast, can cover a huge amount of the map with the turret, aims fast, has an insane RoF for arty (2.7 rounds per minute) and most importantly has a huge ammo count.

Accuracy and RoF are king now, you need to get shots near the target reliably to get good stun due to the drop off mechanic.

Going for stun missions in the 53/55 will pretty reliably get 200+ seconds of stun, with a longer game going for 290sec plus. My max has been 353 seconds of stun. The high RoF and accurate gun makes getting high number of damaging shots easy, hero medals are easy (confederate), and getting damage while stunned.

Object 261 is good but will run out of ammo in even a moderately long game. This is critical in a lot of missions. I rebought the 212 and got missions done with a 80% crew which were impossible to get with a 2 skill crew in the 261 due to low ammo count. Again using the stock gun due to the RoF.

The 261 got an ammo count buff in the most recent patch which negates this issue to done extent.

an extra 2 makes a bit, but not much. Gives you 8 min and 40 sec of continual firing.

All of my higher scores on stuns etc come from a lot of blind shots, firing as soon as you are reloaded into likely spots. And you need those huge games to get a decent average when you get the city maps or have a team which wins/loses fast.

Thankyou i may tend to (although i sold) my U.S Arty , i dont have to re-research right ? I may continue , the hint of staying behind the main force might prolong my life in the lower tiers .

while u r at it, learn to use arty in TD mode and also.... sometimes in late game... u can even use it as a capper, a sui-scout.

Revived the U.S Arty line , thankfully didnt have to re-research .

As painful as it is on most tier 1-V maps , i'll persist for awhile .

Nearly every game you should move up between shots to make sure you can keep shooting at targets.

If you are sitting in the one spot waiting for an enemy to peek out you are doing it wrong.

Keep moving so you have a good shot as soon as you are reloaded. Stay reasonably close behind your tanks to keep flight time to a minimum and improve your accuracy on target.
